Antigua
My trip to the island of Antigua was brief, just a day long cruise ship stopover, but it gave me one of the best memories of my lifetime and the desire to want to return someday.
GETTING THERE
The country has two main islands, Antigua and Barbuda, located in the eastern Caribbean Sea. Many visitors arrive on cruises, but there are also flights from across the USA to the country's Bird International Airport ANU.
Tourism is their main business and the islands entice sun worshippers with sparkling white sand beaches, warm tropical waters filled with every shade of blue, and a wide range of hotels, from inexpensive inns to top of the line resorts.
AMAZING EXCURSIONS
The highlight of my visit to Antigua was horseback riding along a stunning beach and then going bareback riding into the Caribbean Sea. My gentle white horse first meandered along a trail towards the beach. Once at the shore, we walked leisurely along the gleaming bright white sandy bay. The view was spectacular!

After the ride, my guide took the saddles off all the horses in our group. Then I traveled bareback into the sea on a beautiful brown horse. The horse seemed to truly enjoy the water, both of us were cooling off from the sun. It was an incredible feeling. We stayed in the sea for quite a while, walking, wandering. Afterwards, a nice brush for the horse, and some snacks for us both.
Back near the cruise port, the town of St. John's was walking distance and featured boutique stores and restaurants, inexpensive stores and eateries, all well stocked with Rum, Rum Cakes, and the super sweet small local Antigua Black Pineapple. Dickenson Bay was also nearby with many water sports options for visitors young and old.
Although I only had a short time in Antigua, I still made memories that last a lifetime. I loved it so much, I even thought about living there! I definitely hope to return someday.
